“All four of the Scottish players, they have never played a World Team Championship. So, just being here, first match, getting on court and fighting for your country, for Scotland, was always going to be a bit difficult, and there were probably a few nerves today from the three of them.
“But what’s important is that despite being a bit nervous, they all stuck to what they needed to do and got through it. Getting into the event and feels what it feels to play a world Championship, the pressure, playing for your country.
“Hopefully from tomorrow, they will be a bit more relaxed, maybe not the right word, maybe not as much stressed.
“We played the Germans in the Europeans, and I see that the German girls have improved quite a lot. So I knew that each match would be difficult. Also, Katerina and Saskia are now working full time, playing a lot more, and you can see the level going up. They were really up for the match today, and did their best.
“So I was really pleased with the girls, even though the Germans were coming for them, they stuck to it, and got through it, which is a big thing I think in these sort of events. Even if you are not playing at your best, and your opponent is, trying to stick to it and come at the other end.
